I, Surinder Kaur wife of Sardar Kulwant Singh, aged 29 years, resident of 52, Amar Colony, Nangloi, Delhi, presently residing at C-93-C, Tilak Vihar, Delhi, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under: - 1. That on 1-11-1984, we were watching television at the house of my sister-in-law (husband’s sister). Upon hearing slogans in the televisions, we became scared and eight to ten members including my husband went towards tubewell of Kartare. In the meantime, the mob came and there was chaos. Mob came repeatedly and the tube-well was set on fire and all the Sikhs were burnt alive. 2. The mob indulged in looting included Amar Singh, Kartar’s relative Rajinder Singh (accomplice of Sajjan Kumar), Ramesh Sharma (53-D), Bishan Dutt Sharma (53-D), Gulzari Lal (brother-in-law, wife’s brother) of Bishan Dutt, Om Pal (who lives on our rear side), Jagdish milk vendor and his brother (living adjacent to the Mandir), Hazari Lal, tea vender and his two sons (his shop is located on the rear side of our house) and meetings were held there alone, Mahavir milk vendor, (who lives on the rear side of Kartare’s tube well), Goel and Bal Kishan who run provision shops on the main road, Polia brother of Hazari Lal (who lives opposite to Hazari Lal’s house), were participating in the mob who was killing and looting. These persons supplied kerosene oil to the mob many times. These persons were abetting / exciting the mob for killing the Sikhs. After killing the men-folk, these people collected two rupees each from the colony residents for purchasing wood and burnt the half-burnt bodies of the Sikhs. 3. Myself and some other women and children lived for the night of 1-11-1984, in the house of Jai Bhagwan. 4. Then on 2-11-1984, Kartare and his family members at about 3 O’clock took us to village Mundka. There Kartare confined / hid us in one of the house about three houses away from his house. Again at 12 PM, in the night Kartare took us back to his house. My elder sister-in-law (husband’s sister) went with Kartare’s son Ishwar on motorcycle at 3 AM, to Raghubir Nagar where our relatives lived. 5. That on 4-11-1984, with the help of my sister-in-law (husband’s sister) and Ishwar, Army arrived in the village and we were saved. The army took us from Nangloi Police Station to Raghubir Nagar and thereafter we reached Khayalla village at the residence of my husband’s elder brother. 6. During this period, my house was burnt and I suffered a loss of Rs.1 lakh. |
