Statement of Ravinder Singh S/o S. Mohan Singh, aged about 36 years, R/o WZ-495, Gali No.16, Sadh Nagar, Palam Colony, New Delhi.

1.                  In 1984, I was staying with my family at the above given address

2.                  On 1st November`84, I was at abovesaid address at about 10:30 AM, when a mob of around 1500 – 2000 people armed with rods, lathis, cans of kerosene oil etc. came to our area. They first went to M/s Faqir Bakery owned by Kapoor’s family and started looting the bakery. Baljinder Singh of Kapoor’s family came over to our house for help. We around 9 persons of locality went with him for help. Whenever started throwing soda bottles etc. on the mob, the mob dispersed. In the process we caught hold of five persons and locked them in the bakery. After some time, police came at the bakery and asked us to release those persons and further told us to go to our houses. The police assured us that they would protect us. On this assurance, we went to our respective houses but after some time the mob came again with lathis, rods, cans of kerosene oil etc. and they surrounded the houses of the Sikhs of the area, which were around 13 in number. The mob started looting these houses one by one. After looting the mob would burn the houses and kill the Sikh people whoever were caught. I alongwith my family managed to go to neighbour’s house and could save ourselves.

3.                  On 2nd November`84, in the morning a truck of Air Force I came and rescued us. When I came out with my family from the neighbour’s house, I saw half burnt dead bodies of Inder Singh and Ajit Singh, who were our neighbours, lying on the road.

4.                  In my area i.e. Gali No.16 & 17 around 9 Sikhs were killed. Their names are: -

1). Inder Singh Kapoor,

2). Surjit Singh,

3). Ajit Singh,

4). Paramjit Singh,

5). Kirpal Kaur,

6). Satnam Singh,

7). Balwinder Singh,

8). Bhupinder Singh and

9). Brother in law of Inder Singh Marwah.

5.                  In Sadh Nagar alone, around 32 Sikhs were killed.

6.                  The police never helped us and when we went to lodge a report with them, they refused to listen to us. After a few days, they told my father to give a report of damage suffered by us but they asked us not to write about all the abovesaid events. They didn’t even write my report saying that we have already received a report from your father.
