Affidavit of Nanavati Commission

I, Satya Devi, W/o Late Sh. Prakash Chand, age 46 yrs., R/o RZ-104, Vinod Puri, Vijay Enclave, Palam Road, New Delhi-110045, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under:- 1. That I am staying at RZ-104, Vinod Puri, Vijay Enclave, Palam Road, New Delhi, since 1981. 2. That on 1st November, ’84, unruly mob came to our colony at about 9:30 A.M. The mob first attacked the Gurdwara of the colony after looting Gurdwara it was burnt. 3. That after that I could see the mob from my house moving in the colony and looting and burning the houses where any Sikh was residing. 4. That in the unruly crowd there were some persons of the colony and some were outsiders. This looting and burning of houses went on till 12 noon. 5. That an unruly mob came again in the colony in the evening at 6 P.M. They came to our house to check if any Sikh was hiding in our house. When I told them there was no Sikh inside. They did not believe me and came inside and searched every room and corner. After assuring that there is no Sikh they went away. 6. That my husband went to the house of Baldev Singh our neighbor. Baldev Singh’s wife Smt. Surjit Kaur and my husband were “Dharam Ke Bhai Behan .” As Baldev Singh was away, my husband was at Smt. Surjit Kaur’s home to protect them. 7. That on 2nd November, ’84, mob came twice in search of Sikhs to our house. Some houses of Sikhs were burnt on 2nd November, ’84, also. Then the crowd went to the Surjit Kaur’s house. I saw from my house crowd in front of Surjit Kaur’s house. At about 11 P.M. Surjit Kaur came running to my house and informed me that my husband was taken away by the mob force ably. 8. That on 3rd November, ’84, at about 10 A.M. my other neighbor came to my house and informed me that my husband was killed by the mob last night as he was giving protection to Sikhs. 9. That I have been given compensation of Rs. 3.5 lacs. |
