Affidavit of Nanavati Commission

I, Sher Singh, S/o Late Jawahar Singh, age 68 yrs., R/o RZ-20, K / I, Gali No. 5/1, Main Sagar Pur, New Delhi-110046, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under:- 1. That I am residing at RZ-20 K / I, Gali No. 5/1, Main Sagar Pur, New Delhi-110046, since 1972 and I am still staying there. 2. That on 31st October, ‘84, at about 9 P.M. an unruly mob came to Gurdwara Singh Sabha Sahib, Sagar Pur and looted the Gurdwara and then burnt it. 3. That on seeing smoke and flame coming out from the Gurdwara Sahib from my house, I and S. Harman Singh, then Secretary of the Gurdwara Sahib went to Gurdwara Sahib. We saw that Palki Sahib and Chandoa Sahib was on fire and other material Utensils, Durees, Razais etc. were all either looted or on fire. We extinguish the fire, and at about 10 P.M. came back to my house. 4. That mob came to my house at about 11 P.M. but could not open the Iron Gate. They threw stones / bricks at my house, but could not loot or put in on fire. 5. That on 1st November, ‘84, at 6A.M. I along with 4 other Sikhs of Sagar Pur, S. Harbans Singh, S. Kuldeep Singh, S. Massa Singh and S. Harnam Singh went to police station, Delhi Cantt. Police officer I/c, did not provide any assistance and asked us to go away from police station and take shelter where ever possible. I and S. Massa Singh and S. Harnam Singh ran towards Army vehicle depot, while S. Harbans Singh and Kuldeep Singh went back to Sagar Pur. 6. That my wife, son Balwant Singh, his wife and my daughter stayed back at house. My son cut his hair and took shelter in neighbor’s house. 7. That on 1st November, ‘84, at about 11 P.M. my son left the neighbor’s house, crossed the railway line near the colony and came to vehicle Depot where I was taking shelter. He wept profusely after embracing me for having cut his hair. 8. That on 2nd November, ’84, my wife and other female members of the family also joined me at vehicle depot and we all went to the camp established at Gurdwara Delhi Cantt. 9. That at camp we learnt that our house has been looted and later burnt. 10. That on 11th November, ’84, my wife accompanied by a person working in army went to see our house, and found that it was completed looted and burnt. 11. That I suffered a loss of Rs.1,20,000/- (copy of F.I.R. attached). 12. That I did not get any compensation for the huge loss suffered by me. 13. That I humbly request that adequate compensation may kindly be ordered for this loss suffered by me. |
