I, Chanan Singh S/o S. Narain Singh, aged 62 years, R/o WZ-654/3A, Sadh Nagar, Gali No.17, Palam Colony, now residing at 107, Chand Nagar, New Delhi-18, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under: -

1.                  That in October/November`84, my family consisting of my wife, 2 sons and 1 daughter were residing at WZ-654/3A, Sadh Nagar, Palam Colony, ND, I was an employee of Indian Airlines at Palam.

2.                  That I was a General Secretary of Sadh Nagar Gurdwara Committee. This Gurdwara catered for Sadh Nagar, Raj Nagar and surrounding localities in those days.

3.                  That on 31^st October`84, we heard the news of Mrs. Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India been shot. Nothing untoward happened in our colony on that day but atmosphere was tensed.

4.                  That on 1^st November`84, while I was getting ready to go to my duty, my neighbour Shri Tirath Ram and Mr. Kapila came to my house and advised me not to go to my duty as Sardars were being attacked on sight and their shops are being looted and burnt. I did not go on duty. We went over to our neighbour Shri Tirath Ram’s house.

5.                  That after some time a mob passed by house it was accompanied by a police Hawaldar. He was instigating the mob, “Carry out your mission for which you have come.” A man in the mob had a voters list and was pointing out the Sikh houses. I saw him from hiding place in the neighbour’s house. He called out my name and pointed towards my house. My house was looted and burnt.

6.                  That we stayed there till 3^rd November`84, morning. Thereafter, I was rescued by an Army unit to Delhi Cantt. We stayed there for one month.

7.                  That after a week / 10 days, an Army vehicle took us to our Gurdwara. Our Committee President S. Mohan Singh and 2 – 3 more persons were also with me. We found that the Gurdwara was completely looted and burnt, then we went around our locality and prepared the list of persons killed in our area. They were around 32 in number. Their names are given in the list attached to this affidavit.

8.                  That I suffered a loss of Rs.1.50 lakh of my household goods besides my house being burnt.
