Affidavit of Nanavati Commission

I, Mehtab Singh, S/o S. Jodh Singh, aged 75 yrs., R/o C-53, Ground Floor, Jungpura B, Near Rajdoot Hotel, New Delhi-110014, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under:- 1. That I am residing at C-53, Ground Floor, Jungpura B, Near Rajdoot Hotel, New Delhi-110014, since 1951. 2. That I am refugee from West Pakistan. This house C-53, Jungpura B, was allotted tome against my claim for loss suffered by me during partition of India in 1947. 3. That in Nov.`84, I was staying at C-53, Jungpura B, along with my wife, three daughters, one of whom was married, 2 sons, 2 daughter-in-laws and one grand child age 2 years. 4. That at about 2 P.M. on 1st Nov.`84, a train from Nizamuddin Railway Station had halted near my house-which is adjacent to railway tracks. A large mob of about 2000 person, detrained and advanced towards my house. The mob attacked my house. I along with my members of my family left our house and took shelter in the house of Shri Satpal Dilawari at 1/7, Jungpura B. This family hid us in their house. We stayed in the house of Shri Satpal Dilawari for next 10 days till 11-11-84. 5. That while we were hiding in the house of Shri Satpal Dilawari, he was receiving telephone calls from his friends and relatives to enquire why he was giving shelter to sikh and asking him to drive us out. But it goes to the credit of Satpal Dilwani, that he not only refuse, but told them that he (Satpal Dilawari) will lay down his life but not allow anyone to touch me and my family members. We are indebted to Satpal Dilawari for our lives. 6. That my house was looted and burnt, an FIR was lodged with Nizamuddin, Police Station. (copy attached) 7. That I lost 3 trucks, recently purchased from Military Disposal for Rs.1.5 lakhs and entire household goods, including dowry of my son who was married a year back. 8. That total loss suffered by me is Rs.4.5 lacs. 9. That I have only received a paltry compensation of Rs.5,000/- only. |
