Affidavit of Nanavati Commission

I, Dr. (Brig.) Amrit Lal Maria, resident of B 532, New Friends Colony, New Delhi, 110065, do hereby swear and affirm that :- 

  1. That on 1st November, `84, I was in my lawn at about 0930 hrs. when I saw a crowd of about 25 – 30 persons collecting in front of  the main gate of my neighbor Commodore J.M.S. Sood’s house.  Hearing that a crowd had burnt a few houses of Sikhs in the colony.
  2. That I immediately rushed out and requested the crowd, controlled by a well built youngster riding a motor cycle not to do any damage to my friend’s house. 
  3. That by that time my both the sons also joined me. The mob threw a couple of stones on the car of Commodore Sood and wanted to pour kerosene oil on the house to set it on fire.  Since some of the villagers in the mob knew me as a doctor they agreed to listen to my request and moved away some area.
  4. That thereafter, I and my sons guarded B – 531, for a day round the clock.  At about 11 A.M. someday somebody came in a car and requested me to accompany him to his house in Kalindi Colony while I did and saw badly injured Mr. Oberoi whom I gave first aid and suturing of wounds.
