Affidavit of Sh. Ajit Singh s/o Sh. Boorh Singh aged 45 years, r/o 30/436, Trilokpuri, Delhi-110092, present address Farash Bazar, P.S. New Delhi. I, the above named deponent solemnly affirm and declare as under: - 1. On 31.10.84, I was present in my house when I heard that the former Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi had been assassinated. We felt extremely and to hear this. Till night the atmosphere remained calm. 2. At about 10 am on 1.11.84, we were viewing television where the last glimpse of Mrs. Indira Gandhi was being shown. At that time the news came that the Gurdwara situated at Block 36 has been put on fire and further that the non-Sikhs had gathered in large number and were raising slogans against the Sikhs. 3. Then we few Sikhs gathered at road situated in between blocks 30 and 32 to find out as to who and why the Gurdwara had been set to fire. 4. That when I reached near the Maszid Chowk I found black smoke going out of the Gurdwara. During our presence there, we saw 2 trucks arriving there which were full of bricks and bottles. The mob immediately took the bricks and bottles and started walking towards Gurdwara of Block 32. As the Sikhs came forward to save the Gurdwara, the police arrived. 5. The police directed the Sikhs to go to their respective homes and police would protect them. Then the Police fired in the air. When the Sikhs did not move, the police threatened to fire on them. The Sikhs were frightened and went to their respective houses. 6. Sometime afterwards the mob encircled the block from all sides at the behest of Duli Chand. First of all, the Gurdwara was burnt and thereafter the Sikhs were dragged out of their houses and beaten to death or burnt. This genocide continued the whole night of 1.11.84. Ram Pal Saroj was inciting the mob and killing the Sikhs with iron rods. 7. Till 8:00 pm of 2.11.84 the killing of Sikhs continued. Nobody came for their protection, neither police nor the military. Many were killed but few took refuge with neighbours who had to shave off at their behest to save their lives. 8. At 8:30 pm on 2.11.84, the CRPF arrived who started evacuating us to safe place but the mob kept on hurling abuses fearlessly and shouted that the high officials and ministers were at their back so they would wipe out Sikhs completely. CRPF saved us but no action has been taken against the culprits. 9. We, later on learnt, that HKL Bhagat the MP, from this area, had come there and given definite instructions to his close workers to attack the Sikhs and loot their properties. 10. We spent night at P.S. Kalyanpuri. Next day i.e. on 3.11.84 at 10:00 am we were transported to Farash Bazar. Even after this, whenever a Sikh went to see his burnt house in Trilokpuri, he was subjected to humiliation and threat to life. On 14.7.85 a murderous attack was made on the life of Satpal Singh who was badly mauled. But he ran and escaped death somehow. |
