Affidavit of S. Kirpal Singh Narula, s/o
S. Sant Singh Narula, age 62 years, resident of 992, Main Road, Gandhi
Nagar, Delhi.
I, the above named deponent do hereby solemnly affirm and state
on oath as under: -
1.On 31st October 1984, I went home
after closing my shop at 6 PM, and stayed inside the house as a mark of
condolence on the death of Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi. That day
there was peace in our house.
2.On 1st November, 1984, we heard about
gathering of a mob at about 10 AM, which came to burn the Gurdwara in
the Gurdwara street after plundering the shops of Sikhs and killing the
Sikhs in Kailash Nagar.
3.At about 10:30 AM, the contents of the shops
of Sikhs about 10 feet inside the street were taken out and set on fire.
The residents of the street prevented the mob from coming to the side
of the Gurdwara. There was a house of a Sikh at the corner of this street.
The mob removed the contents and burnt it. All of us the residents of
the street were standing on the side of the Gurdwara and the mob was throwing
stones.
4.The mob was being led by Hans Raj Kapoor, resident
of Gandhi Nagar, who is also known as Gandhi. All the individuals comprising
the mob were carrying material to set fires and weapons etc. kill persons.
On 1-11-84, at about 6 PM the mob went away. We reached the shops at about
6:30 PM and all had been burnt by them. Some more shops of the mohalla
had been looted and burnt. “Texla” shop the owner of which building is
Hans Raj himself, was looted but not burnt.
5.Some policemen were present there on duty but
no help was tendered by them to us at all.
6.At about 11:30 PM, I was informed by a women
neighbour of my shop in Kailash Nagar that shop had been looted.
7.On 2-11-84, in the morning a relief camp was
established in Gurdwara Gandhi Nagar. All the residents of the mohalla
gathered there. We opened an office there where we started to listen and
record the statements of the victims. After collecting all the complaints,
a list of the rioters was prepared, which was forwarded under the guidance
of Pradhan of our Gurdwara – S. Harbans Singh Bhatia and Baba Piara Singh
Sawtantar to all high ups – which included, the PA to Prime Minister,
SSP of the area, SDM area, military colonel area and MP – HKL Bhagat.
No action has been taken on that so far.
