Affidavit
of Sadora Singh S/o S. Jagan Singh, aged 75 years, Resident of Block 32-A,
Trilokpuri (Pardhan), Present address C-53, Tilak Vihar, New Delhi-110018.
(Daughter-in-law Popri Bai)
I, Sador Singh, solemnly affirm as under: -
That I was the Pardhan and had six sons who were murdered at 8
or 9 PM. On 1st November, 1984. I have been staying there for
the last 8 to 10 years. My sons were working and I was not doing any work.
I was Pardhan of Block-32 and an active worker of Congress.
We were severely shocked at the news of the assassination of Smt.
Indira Gandhi on 31st October, 1984 and I did not take food
for three days. A mob burnt her shops of two Sikhs at about 10:30 AM on
31st October, 1984. The owners of shops and other people ran
from there. The mob threw bricks on Sikh who also retaliated. The police
then made three air firings and they told the mob not to create disturbances.
Rather collect the people and settle the matter in the evening.
At about 3 or 4 PM the rioters (sweepers) came to burn the Gurdwara.
On coming to know of it, the Sikhs reached there. The sweepers then said
that they will protect the Gurdwara as the temples and Gurdwaras were
equal in their eys. They asked the Sikhs to go assuring them their protection.
The police told the Sikhs to go the attackers surrounded them from all
the sides. There were about two thousand persons in the mob. the Gurdwara
was burnt. Duli Chand sweeper working in DDA was leading the mob. The
mob was carrying sticks, thrishuls, iron rods and kerosene oil. The attacking
mob of about 2000 persons comprised of the sweepers from those blocks,
gujjars of Chilla Village, Bagris of Kalyanpuri and sweepers of Trilokpuri.
They attacked all the Sikhs and started killing them. Ram Pal Saroj of
Congress (I), who is very close to Harkishan Lal Bhagat, was leading the
rioters. I was block President and kept meeting him who used to get our
minor work done from Bhagat. He was yelling at the mob to kill and burn
Sikhs alive.
While I was sitting near my door, Saroj came with the mob of 100
or 150 persons and called my son, Bhajan Singh, aged 28 years to come
out. When he came out, they made him unconscious by beating of sticks
and after he fell down, they burnt him after pouring oil on him. Thereafter,
they killed my three other sons and burnt hthem. They also killed two
sons-in-law and a grandson aged 18 years. They continued killings the
Sikhs in all the streets. Police was with them and inciting them. They
kept on burning the houses, killing the people and burning them. Three
of four hundred persons were killed. The killing and looting continued
for the whole night of November 1, and the women were raped after taking
them to the huts. Abbas Chappal wala, who lives in block 32 and has a
shop in Block-27 took 10 or 15 women, who had come to my house, to the
huts.
Before daybreak on 2nd November, the women were turned
out and told to go to Chilla Village. Five or six of us old men and about
250 women went to Chilla Village. The hut dwellers badly misbehaved and
ill-treated us at night. We told them that we are hungry and requested
for shelter. They drove us away and molested and misbehaved with our women.
We kept wandering in the fields whole day on 2nd November.
When we failed to get any refuge, we went to Kalyanpuri Police Station
at about 6 PM. The police told us to go to Block-20, Kalyanpuri. Sikhs
are live there. They opened the doors of their houses and gave shelter
to us. They served us tea and food. They did not have enough space and
we spent the night in the open ground outside police station. In the morning
we found two women missing. When we told the police about that, they recovered
the women from Block 32, Trilokpuri. They were raped throughout the night.
We went to Farash Bazar Police Station Camp on the 3rd morning.
There we were given shelter. Bhagat came there to elicit votes and our
women weiled and said, “after getting our people killed and getting women
molested you have come to elicit our votes. Don’t you feel ashamed. With
what face have you come here.”
