Affidavit of Nanavati Commission

      I, Sanmukh Singh, S/o Darbari Singh, aged about 60 yrs., R/o B-52 B, Tilak Vihar, New Delhi-18, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under:-

1.                  That in Oct./Nov.`84, I along with my family were residing at 32/95,  Himmat Puri, Delhi.

2.                  That after the news of death of Shrimati Inder Gandhi spread, there was tension in our locality which mounted in the evening of 1st Nov.`84.  Large group of miscreants having lathis, barchaas, swords etc. were roaming in the area and shouting anti sikh slogans, “Sardaron Ka Beej Naas Kar Do, Kisi Sardar Ko Mat Chhoro”.  They were burning the houses of Sikhs, looting property and killing Sikhs.

3.                  That I got highly scared when I saw the miscreants coming towards our side.  I along with my wife and two minor sons hid ourselves in the house of our well wisher, who belonged to “Saansi Community” (non sikh).

4.                  That the armed and anti sikh slogan shouting miscreants looted my household goods / articles and later on set it on fire at about 7 –8 P.M. on 1-11-84.

5.                  That on 2-11-84, we somehow managed to escape to the Police Station, Kalyanpuri and on 3/11/84, we were taken in Govt. vehicles to Police Station, Farsh Bazaar.

6.                  That I suffered a loss of Rs.80,000/- (Rupees Eighty Thousand) on account of damage to my house by fire and looting of household goods / articles.  I filed my complaint at P.S. Farsh Bazaar on 14/11/84, which was duly acknowledged by the Police.  A copy of the said complaint is being filed as ANNEXURE –1.

7.                  That no compensation has been paid to me so far though.  I have made innumerable visits to the Police Station and various other agencies providing relief to 1984, Riot Victims.

8.                  That I am entitled to a compensation of Rs.80,000/-.
