Affidavit of Nanavati Commission

I, Sheel Kaur W/o Shri Santa Singh aged about 60 years R/o 13/7 Kalyanpuri , New Delhi do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under: 1. That on 1.11.84 my nephew Sardar Jallawar Singh was going for his work alongwith two other persons from his house situated at Kalyanpuri. On the way mob came and caught hold of Jallawar Singh and beaten him mercilessly and threw him in Yamuna. The two other persons who accompanied him and told Sardar Jallawar Singh was beaten by the mob and threw in the river Yamuna. I immediately along with my husband Sardar Santa Singh went to the Yamuna side and there I saw that there were lot of bodies other Sikh persons. We could not identify the body of Jallawar Singh and we came back to our house in fear. 2. That when we came back to our house after some time a mob consisting of 1000-1500 persons surrounded our house and started throwing bricks on our house and we also started throwing back the bricks to deter the mob. At that time about 15 members of our family were there in the house. At that time a truck load of bricks was lying on the roof of the house. 3. That on the same night we all ran out of the house. I along with my daughter and two sons shifted to one of our neighbour’s house Shri Ramesh Kumar and vacated the house totally. 4. That on 2nd November, 1984 I requested Mr. Ramesh Kumar one box containing costly jewelery , which was purchased recently for the marriage of my daughter which was to be performed after few days. On my request Shri Ramesh Kumar went to my house to fetch the said box containing costly jewelery but on the way he was also caught hold by the said mob and he was also killed at about 6.00 A.M. 5. That the said mob thereafter looted my house and the factory which was situated on the upper floor of my house and taken away the entire articles in tempo. I saw the entire incident when I was in the house of Mr. Ramesh Kumar. After looting my property my house was also burnt by them. 6. That I also saw the police persons bringing the bodies of Sikhs and putting the same into the police vehicle which was parked by them near my burnt house. 7. That thereafter in the evening I requested the police persons who were standing near my house to take me and my other family members upto 11 Block of Kalyanpuri, Delhi who acceded to my request and I took one of my daughters and one son, and leaving one daughter at the house of said Ramesh Kumar. 8. That we reached at 11 Block of Kalyanpuri, there were lot Sikh families there in the said block and they were also having licensed arms with them. These families saved themselves with the help of these arms because the mob had attacked them time and again. 9. That on or about 4th or 5th November, 1984 the police came to Block 11 of Kalyanpuri , taken away all those persons who were having licensed arms and threw them behind the bar and their arms were seized by the police. 10. That on 11th November, 1984, CRPF personnels came to Block 11 of Kalyanpuri and distributed the blankets to the people. 11. That I suffered losses to the tune of about Rs. 3 lakhs in respect of damage cost to my house as well as my factory. 12. That I have received only Rs.1000/- towards my house and Rs.1000/- in respect of my factory as compensation. 13. That no compensation has been awarded to me in respect of losses suffered by me as stated above. 14. That after returning home I had lodged a police complaint at Police Station Kalyanpuri, Delhi separately i.e. in respect of house and factory. |
