Affidavit of Nanavati Commission

I, Jasbir Kaur, W/o Late S. Bawa Singh, aged 60 yrs., R/o B—74-D, Tilak Vihar, New Delhi, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under:- 1. That in Oct./Nov.`84, I with my family was living at 21/479, Trilok Puri. 2. That on 31st Oct.`84, we heard that that Smt. Indira Gandhi, P.M. of India had been shot. Our neighbor hood was quite. 3. That at about 8 A.M. on 1st Nov.`84, some ladies of the neighborhood asked me to accompanying then to pay homage to the leader. I was getting ready when suddenly a huge mob entered the colony. The mob was armed with lethal weapons and started throwing stones / bricks on Sikh homes. They advanced towards our house and started throwing bricks. Our neighbor spoke to the hooligans and asked “What crime had this Sikh family done.” The miscreants retreated. After some time, a person named Shri Pardhan, who lived in third street from our house, came and said to my husband “Sardar ji-conditions are bad, advise you to save yourself by going away some where else.” My husband replied, “This is my house-where else can I go to save myself.” 4. That at about 0900 hrs. of 1st Nov.`84, a big mob came to our house again. My husband ran away and hid himself same where else and was saved. 5. That I and my daughter hid ourselves in the opposite house. Those good person also locked our house but the hooligans broke open the doors, looted and burnt the house. We were transferred to Farsh Bazaar Refugee Camp by military vehicles on 3rd Nov.`84. 6. That I suffered a loss of Rs.40,000/- in those days prices as recorded in the FIR dated 2/11/84. (copy attached is annexed as ANNEXURE – 1. 7. That I and my family stayed in the Farsh Bazaar Refugee Camp for 1 / 2 year. |
