Affidavit of Nanavati Commission

I, Sujinder Singh, S/o S. Boor Singh, aged 51 yrs., R/o F1/257, Sunder Nagri, D.D.A quarter, Nand Nagri, Delhi-93, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under:- 1. That in Oct./Nov.`84, I was residing at F1/210, Sunder Nagri, D.D.A. quarter, Nand Nagri, Delhi-93. There were about 60/65 sikh houses in the area. A Gurdwara was located in the park about 200 yards from my house. I was a “Gunman” in Punjab and Sindh Bank. 2. That at about 1:30 P.M. on 1st Nov.`84, two truck loads of armed men disembarked near the Gurdwara. Sensing danger to the Gurdwara, all Sikhs raced to the Gurdwara. We were about 70 sikhs old and young. Seeing us ready to defend the Gurdwara Sahib the mob retreated. 3. That two hours later, some more trucks arrived with more armed men. The mob had now swelled to a few thousands. They started brick batting. Some sikh were injured and a few were caught by the mob and killed. The Gurdwara was set on fire. 4. That I had run back, when I saw the mob advancing towards my house. My neighbors also arrived and after cutting my hair, they hid me in their house. My wife and one son and one daughter took shelter with another neighbor opposite to where I was hiding. I saw my house being looted. 5. That at 5 A.M. on 2nd Nov.`84, my host Ramlal told me that danger had increased very much and he could not vouch for my safety and advised me to seek some other shelter. I left my hiding place and I went to Mental Hospital, Shahdara, where my superior Sh. Gian Inder Sikri, manager of the branch where I worked was staying his wife was working as doctor in Mental Hospital and was allotted quarter. I stayed there and then went to Nanak Sar Gurdwara on 3-11-84, lived. Disguising my son as a girl with pigtails my wife and children. And went to Nanak Sar Gurdwara for shelter on 4-11-84. They were taken there by a military escort. Then the entire family, shifted to refugee camp set up in Shyam Lal College. We stayed in the camp till 10th Nov.`84. When the camp was closed on 10th Nov.`84, the family shifted to Delhi Cantt. to the residence of my brother. 6. That I had visited my house on 7-11-84, and having seen it completely looted, I lodged an FIR with SHO, Police Station, Shahdara, on 7-11-84. The FIR details the property looted and destroyed. I suffered a loss of Rs.1,00,000/-. |
