Affidavit of Nanavati Commission

I, Kamaljit Singh, S/o S. Mela Singh, aged 48 yrs., R/o B-8, Bhajanpura, Ghumbhari Gali-9, New Delhi-110053, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under:- 1. That in Oct./Nov.`84, I and my family consisting wife and three children were staying at F1/128, Sunder Nagari, N.D.-110053. 2. That I was working in Indian Express, I.T.O. New Delhi and I am still working there. 3. That on 31st Oct.`84, whilst on duty in the press of Indian Express, I came to know at about 6 P.M. that Mrs. Indira Gandhi, Prime Minister of India, had been shot by her Sikh guards. 4. That when after finishing my duty, I was going to my house at about 7:30 P.M., I was set upon by jhuggi jhupadi dwellers of Seelampur. They snatched my cycle and assaulted me. I somehow ran away along the Seelampur Nala to Gorak Park, where my parents lived. I reached there at about 9 P.M. 5. That from there I sent my friend Laddha Singh, a Hindu barber “Nai” to my house and told my wife and children to join me at my parent’s house in Gorak Park. 6. That my wife disguised the sons as daughters and brought them to Gorak Park. We stayed there for two days. On 2nd Nov.`84, we were evacuated by a military truck to a refugee camp in Shyam Lal College, where we stayed till 12th Nov.`84. 7. That on 3rd Nov. Laddha Singh told us that our house has been looted and burnt. 8. That on 8th Nov. I visited my house and saw it completely looted and burnt. 9. That I lodged the attached FIR in the Police Station, Shahdara. (copy attached) 10. That I suffered a total loss of over Rs.1 lakh (Rs.40,500/- for the household goods and rest for the house). 11. That I have received a total compensation of Rs.200/- (Rupees two hundred only) so far. 12. That I pray that my loss be compensated. |
