Affidavit of Nanavati Commission

           I, Kulbir Singh Bhatia, S/o S. Harbhajan Singh, aged 57 yrs., R/o C-21, Fateh Nagar, Tilak Nagar, New Delhi, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under:- 

1.                  That I was staying at No.1129, Janta Quarter, D.D.A. flat, Nand Nagri, Delhi, since 1983.

2.                  That I owned a three  wheeler which I used to drive myself.  Normally I used to go for work at 7 A.M. and return by 3 to 4 P.M.

3.                  That on 31stOct.`84, I returned home with my three wheeler at 4 P.M.  There was no riotous activity on the way back home or in the Nand Nagri area till that time.

4.                  That I was informed by my neighbors at 8 P.M. that Sikh houses / shops are being looted and burnt and I was advised to stay indoor. 

5.                  That at 8 P.M. from my house I could see thick smoke coming from Nand Nagri area across the road.

6.                  That throughout the night I was hearing loud noises “Kill the Sikhs.”

7.                  That I spent very terrifying night hoping that police will come for my help  but no one came.

8.                  That on 1st Nov.`84, we continued to hear loud noises throughout the day.  My neighbor were informing me throughout 1st Nov.`84 that I should keep inside, as Sikhs are being killed mercilessly and then being burnt throughout the area of Nand Nagri.

9.                  That on 2ndNov.`84, I cut my hair and left my house and took shelter in D.D.A. flat under construction across the road.  I along with family members remained  there till next day.

10.              That on 3rd Nov.`84, we left the D.D.A. flat under construction, where we were hiding. We were planning to go to Vivek Vihar, but some one on the road, informed us that a camp has been established in Farsh Bazaar, Police Station.  We went there.  We stayed in the camp till 10th Nov.`84.

11.              That on 9th Nov.`84, while staying in the camp I went to P.S., Seemapuri and lodged an FIR, (copy enclosed)- I suffered a total loss of Rs.1,20,000/-of all my household goods, but due to prevailing disturbing mental stage-I recorded a loss of Rs.20,000/- only.

12.              That I was so disturbed and shocked by this happening that I left for Ropar, Punjab, on 11th Nov.`84.

13.              That I received compensation of Rs.2000/- only.

14.              That I pray that full compensation for the loss suffered by me may kindly be ordered.
