STATEMENT OF RAVINDER SINGH S/O MOHINDER SINGH,  R/O RZ-L24, MAHAVIR ENCLAVE, PALAM, DELHI-45 

1.  During 1984, I was residing at Tilak Nagar, New Delhi.

2. On 2-11-84, at about Noontime many Sikh families of our area were standing outside our houses. At that time, a police party comprising of SHO Jagdish Chander Sharma, SI Babu Lal, Constable Suresh Kumar and Hawaldar Kalu Ram alongwith 8 – 10 policemen came there. They started lathi charging on the Sikhs, who were standing there, without any reason. All the mohallwalas got scared and ran towards their houses to escape the lathi charge. After some time some of the abovesaid police personnel entered our house by climbing from the backside wall and some started banging our doors vigorously. The policemen caught hold of us. They dragged us out and started beating us. At that time, I alongwith Harjit Singh, Tarvinder Singh, Adipal Singh, Mahinder Singh s/o Hara Singh and my father Mohinder Singh s/o Harnam Singh were inside the house. We all six Sikhs were beaten badly. Thereafter, we were taken to the Tilak Nagar P.S. in a police vehicle. All of us were beaten badly in the Police Station. My hands and feet were tied by the police and I was mercilessly beaten on soles and palms. Other Sikhs were also beaten mercilessly by the police in the Police Station. The arm of my brother Harjit Singh was broken. My brother Tarvinder Singh beaten with iron chains. Later on, all of us were falsely implicated in case FIR No.443/84, U/s 147,148,149,307,186,353,332 & 188 IPC. Thereafter, we were sent to Tihar Jail. We were released on bail after 12 days. The trial were continued for about 3 years and we were acquitted in 1987 by the Court of Sh. Mohammad Shamim, ASJ, Tis Hazari Courts, Delhi.

3. It is submitted that the case against us was totally false and we were humiliated, mercilessly beaten in the Police Station Tilak Nagar by the police only because we were Sikhs. I humbly pray to the Hon’ble Commission to recommend action against the abovesaid police personnel for torturing me and implicating me and other Sikhs in the abovesaid false case.
