Affidavit of Nanavati Commission

I, Surinder Kaur, W/o S. Saran Singh, aged 35 yrs., R/o G-6 C, Tilak Nagar, New Delhi-110018, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under:- 1. That in Nov.`84, I was staying at 870, Nangloi, J.J. Colony, Delhi, along with my husband and mother in law. 2. That my husband was doing Kabari work mainly dealing with motor parts. 3. That on 31st Oct.`84, he went for his normal round and came back in the evening at about 4 P.M. 4. That on 1st Nov.`84, as a routine I left for Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib at 3 A.M. and returned at 5 A.M. On the way I did not observe any untoward happening. 5. That on 1st Nov.`84, my husband did not go for his normal round. We were sitting at house. 6. That at about 12 A.M. on 1-11-84, a mob of 700 came to our house. The mob was having iron rods, lathis, bricks. The mob threw some white powder and put the house on fire. I ran out, but my mother in law and husband were inside. 7. That I went to house of a muslim near our house, where many other women and children had taken shelter- I remained there for the night of 1st Nov.`84. 8. That on 2nd Nov.`84, I shifted to Nangloi School, but later I shifted to 20 Block Gurdwara, Patha wala, at Tilak Nagar. 9. That when I reached Patha wala Gurdwara, my mother in law and sister in law (husband’s sister) were already there. My mother in law was badly burnt. 10. That my sister in law informed me that my husband was dragged out, hit by lathis and then burnt alive by putting him on fire. 11. That I stayed in the Gurdwara Camp for next 6 months. 12. That on 10-11-84, I went to my house at Nangloi and found that my house was completely looted and burnt. The roof of my house had collapsed due to fire. I filed an FIR on 12-11-84. (copy attached) 13. That I suffered a loss of Rs.1 lakh. 14. That I received compensation of Rs. 3.5 lakhs for the death |
