Affidavit of Nanavati Commission

      I, Promila W/o Jagmohan Singh aged 39 yrs. R/o 16 D, D.D.A. Flats, Lal Quarters, Punjabi Bagh, New Delhi, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under:- 

1.                  That in Oct./Nov.`84, I and my family were living in Karisha Vihar, B-37, Poot Kalan, Near Sultanpuri.  My husband is a tailor and embroider.  We had some embroiding  machines at home.  I and my  husband worked at home also.  My husband had a shop in Kamla Nagar area from where he brought piece work at home.

2.                  That on 31st Oct.`84, on the news of Mrs. Indira Gandhi’s assassination, our area remained quite.

3.                  That on 1st Nov.`84, about 11:30 AM a huge mob armed with iron rods, water pipes, kerosene tins entered the colony.  The Sikh houses were located all over the colony in-when we saw other houses being attacked, who took shelter with the next door neighbour- a Muslim family.  My husband was snatched by the mob and taken away.  I did not see my husband for nearby 20 days.  After  very short time I and my children left the Muslim family and sought shelter with a friend.

4.                  That this family was threatened with dire consequence by the rioters.  This family also turned me out after dark.  Then I wrapped my children in a torn blanket and hid ourselves in the verandah of another friend. 

5.                  That early morning on 2nd Nov.`84,  the husband of this lady friend took me and my children on his cycle to Mangolpuri.  I stayed here with my relatives for 6 days – thereafter I went to Punjab and stayed there for 6 months.

6.                  That during this period I visited my house and I saw it looted and burnt.  I suffered a loss of Rs.1,00,000/- in embroiding machines, other gadgets etc. and lot of raw material stored in my house.

7.                  That I lodged an FIR  with Sultanpuri Police Station on 13-11-84.  ( copy attached )

8.                  That I have not received any compensation so far.
