Affidavit of Nanavati Commission

I, Mohinderpal Kaur Wd/o Late S. Himmat Singh, aged 43 yrs., now residing at WZ-9/1, Krishna Nagar, New Sahibpura, Tilak Nagar, New Delhi-18, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under: - 1. That in October/November`84, my family and I were staying at H.No.1034, Gali No.7, Khajuri Khas, Yamuna Vihar, Delhi for the last 3 / 4 years. My late husband S. Himmat Singh then aged about 30 yrs. was a motor parts dealer in Kashmiri Gate. I had two children; a son aged 3 yrs. and a daughter 1 ˝ year old at that time. 2. That though there were disturbances in our locality on 1st & 2nd November`84, the Gurdwara Sahib was looted & set on fire, some killings had taken place and lot of houses were burnt, our house was not attacked. 3. That at the insistence of neighbours & friends, my husband had cut his hair. 4. That about 20 houses away from us, stayed my brother in law and three brothers in law. 5. That on 2nd November `84, my family & I went to my mother in law’s house for safety. 6. That on 3rd November`84, at about 7 AM, my mother in law’s house was attacked by an armed mob of about 200, shouting slogans against the Sikhs. My husband came out. Though he had trimmed his hair and did not look a Sikh, some one from the crowd recognized him & said, “he is a Sikh kill him.” He was set upon by the mob and gravely injured in the head. He received numerous head wounds. I was standing on the terrace holding my infant daughter and watched this cruel episode. Though, I raced down to help my husband, he had already received several head wounds. 7. That someone brought the military to our house. The military took my husband & rushed him to a hospital. 8. That about an hour later, the police van came to evacuate terrified Sikh families to Nanaksar Gurdwara. 9. That I got my husband’s dead body from Ervin Hospital on 5th November`84. 10. That I lodged an FIR – copy is attached. |
