I know that my husband had filed an affidavit before Justice Ranganath Mishra Commission of Inquiry. I know his signature. I identify the same on the photocopy which is now shown to me.

[ Mr. Kartar Singh is also present. He is not examined because he is paralytic. However after looking at his signature he confirmed that the photocopy bears his signature. Whatever is stated therein is correctly stated. ]

Cross examination by Shri S.S. Gandhi, Senior Advocate on behalf of Delhi Police :

On 1.11.84 at about 8.30 AM we had reached our home and I had seen whatever had happened thereafter. The mob consisted of about 2000 persons. The police was standing on the bridge; from there shouts were raised that the houses should be burnt. The police had fired one shot. There were about 50 to 60 houses of sardars near my house. All the sardars were inside their houses and they had not collected outside. The shot was fired when the children were about to leave the house after it was set on fire. As a result of that firing the children had returned to the house. I cannot say how many shots were fired by the police. One or two bullets had hit the wall of my house. The children were going to Gurudwara which is about 100 yards away from my house. The Gurudwara was on the nearby lane. The crowd had first tried to burn our house but it had thereafter proceeded further but we had tried to send our children to Gurudwara when it had moved away from our house. Some persons from the mob had entered the front room of my house. It was a small room. We had left the house on 1.11.84. On the same evening our house was again set on fire. We had not gone to our house but we were in the house of a neighbour who was a Hindu. On 3.11.84 we had visited our house as by that time military had come. We found that the house was completely burnt. As our house was completely burnt we went to the Gurudwara and stayed there for few days. Thereafter, we hired one room at a nearby place and stayed there for sometime. Many Sikhs were shifted to the Gurudwara. We had not made any complaint with the police but some persons used to come and take our statements. It is true that an offence was registered in respect of the incident which had happened in our locality. It is true that my husband’s statement was recorded by the police. My husband has not named anyone as accused. We had not recognized anyone from the mob.
