BEFORE JUSTICE NANAVATI COMMISSION OF INQUIRY

(Witness No: 157)

Name : Shri Surjit Singh
Age : 58 Years
Occupation : Retired
Address : 6/21A, Tilak Nagar, New Delhi.

On SA

I have filed an affidavit before this Commission. Its contents are correct. With respect to para 11 of my affidavit I say that the mob had attacked some Sikhs and about 4 or 5 persons died as a result of the injuries received by them later on. As the persons in my locality were beaten by mobs and my shop was looted, I had approached the police but they had not taken down my complaint. Instead, they had told me that you only give a list of your damaged property. The victims referred to by me in my affidavit were all sardars and they were all working as Mistris and drivers.

Cross examination by Shri S.S. Gandhi, Senior Advocate on behalf of Delhi Police.

I had not filed any affidavit earlier before any Commission or any authority.I had not seen the attack on my shop but I was told about it. The place where the train had stopped is about 200 to 300 yards away from my shop. I had seen about 50 to 60 persons alighting from that train and shouting slogans ‘KILL SIKHS – KILL SIKHS’.

No cross examination by Shri Ashok Kashyap, Advocate on behalf of Central Government..
